Hart’s forest is a place of transcendence and mystery... treading an ambivalent line between magnificence and menace. Hart works with a large format camera making long, slow exposures just as dusk falls. Later, in the darkroom, he builds up layers of depth and contrast through laborious chemical processing. The results are almost painterly, with rich inky blacks punctuated by bright shafts of light, atmospheric stage sets in which the silent forest might hold all sorts of secrets.
